Aristotle wrote;

"I count him braver who overcomes his desires than him who conquers his enemies; for the hardest victory is the victory over self."

Malcolm Gladwell

points out in his New Yorker article; “The Art of Failure” that';

“If panicking is conventional failure, choking is paradoxical failure. Pressure causes performance to suffer. The usual prescription for failure – to work harder and take the test more seriously – would only make the problem seem worse. The ability to overcome the pressure of ‘spectators’ is part of what it means to be a champion.”

Galations 6:

“let every man learn to access properly the value of his own work and he can be rightly proud when he has done something worth doing, without depending on the approval of others.” “A man’s harvest in life will depend entirely on what he sows.” “Let us not grow tired of doing good, for, unless we throw in our hand, the ultimate harvest is assured.”

When events blind-side you, give yourself the grace to let the sting fade before tossing in your beliefs. Face yourself in the mirror and assure yourself that champions all face challenges. The battle over our self-talk is core to our victory.

My thoughts for your journey!

It seems that we truly are at a pinnacle of this very concept; conquering ourselves--our internal demons, and consciously, deliberately staving off decision making in all regard until the sting has faded.

Our adversary would like nothing more than to see us decide hastily...making the snowball roll even faster
downhill, growing in size, speed, kinetic energy and taking out all those who happen to be in it's path.

Patience truly is a virtue.

On the other hand - government and large company decisions take forever - which is the point of "why the mighty fall' by Jim Collins. The nimble can and do decide to deal with situations as they come up. Three Mile Island and the Challenger disasters teach us that building a complex system doesn't stop a series of small things from messing up those well thought-out systems and training. The nimble tend to deal with change, opposition and these things faster, and more often with success than being frozen (choke)
